  • Chiang Rai province is the most nothern province of Thailand, about 785 kilometres from Bangkok and just over 100km from Chiang Mai. The province borders Myanmar on the North, and Laos on the north and northeast. It is also known as a gateway to Myanmar, Laos and China. Chiang Rai is famous for its tasty lychees, The Golden Triangle meeting point of Thailand, Laos and Burma (Myanmar) 26 waterfalls and 12 National Parks and hills tribes... This is an ideal base if you wish to explore the ‘golden triangle’ and experience the beauty of life on the Mekong.
    From Bangkok you have less than one hour direct flight to Chiang Rai Airport. (Air Asia, fly12go, Nok Air and Thai Airways have direct flights to Chiang Rai from Bangkok), by bus, from bangkok to chiang rai, around 9 hours.
  • Weather in Chiang Rai : 3 seasons
    - Cool Season : December to February. The daytime temperature is fairly comfortable with the maximum temperature around 25°C/78°F, the night, the weather is cooler, and can drop to near freezing in the mountains.
    - Hot Season : February to May. The temperature can get up to 35°C /88°F and by May, the rain arrives.
    - Rainy Season : May to November. Normally, The rain come in short bursts of in the afternoon or early evenings, and usually only last an hour. The landscape is beautifully green and the average temperature during this season is around 31°C/84°F.
  • Getting around Chiang Rai : Taxi called "Songthaews" run from Chiang Rai to several sightseeings. There are a few places in the city where you will be able to rent a motorbike or car.
  • Near Chiang Rai : Chiang Mai & Mae Hong Son, Mae Sai, Chiang Saen.

  • Chiang Rai hightlights :
    -Wat Rong Khun, the white temple, is located about 11 kilometres south from Chiang Rai.
    -Karen Ruammit Village, located at Mae Yao sub-district, about 19 kilometres from town
    - Huai Mae Sai waterfall, good place to cool down and relax.
    - Ancient Monks Cave, opposite from the Chiang Rai beach and 6 kilometres out of town
    - The Mae Fa Luang Garden, located in front of the Royal Villa, at Doi Tung. This large flower garden includes fountains and waterfalls, a palm garden, a rock garden and an ornamental plant section.
    - Hiking in the Golden Triangle
    - Chiang Rai Night Bazar
    - Chiang Rai Beach (on the edge of the kok River)
    - Phu Chi Fa Forest Park
    - Buffalo Horn Hill
    - Ruammit is a Karen village that is about 12 miles (20 kilometers) away from Chiang Rai town
