With over 300 temples and the backdrop of Doi Suthep Mountain rising to 1876 metres to the west, this is a visually striking city. The Thailand's highest mountain peak is Doi Inthanond at 2,565 meters andtThe city's largest river is the Ping river.

    Chiang Mai, the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Lanna ( the kingdom of a million rice-fields ). Over 700 years old and lying on the banks of the Ping river, the city is a wondrous blend of ancient art, culture and history and is filled with magnificent ancient temples and steeped in culture. Thanks to it's splendid hospitality Chiang Mai is appropriately known as the "Rose of the North".
    Six major hilltribes (Hmong, Lisu, Lahu, Akha, Yao, and Karen) and several minor hill-tribes are found in northern Thailand in the area of Chiang Mai with their own distinct customs, rituals, dialect and clothing.

  • Weather in Chiang Mai : 3 seasons
    - Cool Season : December to February. The daytime temperature is fairly comfortable with the maximum temperature around 25°C/78°F, the night, the weather is cooler, and can drop to near freezing in the mountains.
    - Hot Season : February to May. The temperature can get up to 35°C /88°F and by May, the rain arrives.
    - Rainy Season : May to November. Normally, The rain come in short bursts of in the afternoon or early evenings, and usually only last an hour. The landscape is beautifully green and the average temperature during this season is around 31°C/84°F.
  • Getting around Chiang Mai : Taxi called "Songthaews" run from Chiang Mai to several sightseeings. Motorcycles and cars are available for rent in the city center and sometimes in your resort.
